you are standing in the middle of the racquetball court …the ball just hit the front wall and its coming to you and is in your full power zone. how (or where on the front wall) should you hit the ball so that it just zig zags some where close to the front wall and just dies there.

–thanks

  1. Surfer Dad Said,

Actually, I always look hit it so that it is away from my opponent. If he is in the back, yes, you should make a kill shot that dies in the front. Hitting the front wall close to the corner and low should drop the ball away from him.

However, if he is on one side, closer to the middle or front, I like to hit a passing shot that goes from front to back, along the opposite side of him, just hard enough so that it dies in the back corner. It makes for a long run, and very tough to return.

    Good luck, and have fun.

  2. Rtay Said,

It’s questionable whether that would be your best shot, but if it is… let’s say it’s hit to your forehand, and you’re right-handed. To hit the shot you described, you would want to hit (1) the wall to your left, (2) the wall to your right, (3) the front wall. You will need to experiment a bit to get the right feel for the angle… kind of like pool. If you hit it right, there will be very little front-back momentum on the ball, and it will hit the front wall and pretty much die. As you play tougher opponents, this shot will become less useful (at least in the way you describe it) because when your opponent sees the zig-zag shot, they will immediately start running forward because they know the ball will die somewhere towards the front. I do hit this shot, but typically it’s a backhand shot when I’m right up against the left wall, cutting off a passing shot. Good luck!
